2008 – Audi R8:: Audi R8 launch
Audi launched the R8 – the first ever mid-engine sports car – for the 2008 model year onwards. Sales begin in the first half of 2007 for the United States and Europe.
This car offers a choice of LED or Xenon lamp LED running lights and surrounded by the indicator. LEDs are also used in the engine bay to create an impressive V8 visible even at night. has 420 high-revving horsepower V8 engine and all-wheel-drive. He uses the mid-engine Lamborghini Gallardo platform and costs $ 114,200, precise positioning of the BMW M6, Porsche 911 and Aston Martin Vantage.
Both the standard manual and automated manual transmissions are offered. Claimed zero to 62 mph time 4.6 seconds, although this figure may be conservative.
The drivetrain-Audi R8
At 7800 rpm the 4.2-liter engine provides 309 kW (420 bhp) of power output. Peak torque of 430 Newton-meters from 4.500 to 6,000 rpm. And no less than 90 percent of maximum torque is maintained consistently throughout a wide engine speed range from 3500 up to 7600 rpm. As a result of these qualities, the eight-cylinder power unit provides enough encouragement in most driving situations.
High-revving engine unit. The maximum engine speed is 8250 rpm. Two transmissions are available: 6-speed manual gearbox or optionally the Audi R tronic sequential-shift gearbox, with a joystick gear-shift on the center console, and most especially, the paddles mounted on the steering wheel. ‘Shift by wire’ technology provides a very fast gear-shifting and awesome power-to-weight ratio, allied to compact gearbox dimensions. Sport mode, shifting quickly, ensuring the absolute maximum in terms of driving fun. Automatic mode can also be selected.
The car is equipped with permanent four-wheel drive, which distributes power to vary the front and rear axles by way of a viscous clutch. On the Audi R8 the legendary quattro system adapted to the axle load distribution typical of mid-engined car.
Skill-Audi R8
Audi R8 is being built on a small lot production line in a new block built at the Audi plant in Neckarsulm. The entire production process – from the bodyshell construction of the final assembly – held in the same way as a craft workshop. Small specialist team to accompany every step of production, ensuring that everyone from a maximum of 15 cars per day which is built to quality standards.
Chassis – Audi R8
Chassis features forged aluminum double wishbones at the front and rear. Triangulation in front of them, while at the rear top is triangulated and the bottom is a triangulated wishbone with a track rod. This provides optimum wheel control, and a geometry that has proved itself to be the ideal solution in delivering agility, maximum steering precision and precisely defined self-steering characteristics.
Direct, hydraulic rack-and-pinion steering provides optimum feedback to assist the driver.
The spring and damper set-up is stiff in order to deliver maximum driving dynamics, while still providing a quite astonishing level of ride comfort. This is particularly true when the ‘Audi magnetic ride’ adaptive damper system is selected as an alternative to standard gas filled shock absorbers.
Instead of conventional damper fluid, a magnetorheological fluid is used – in other words, the viscosity of the fluid that can be affected by electromagnetic fields. This effect allows the damping characteristics will be influenced electronic and instant, by applying voltage to the electromagnets.
Audi magnetic ride uses this property to provide the correct damping forces in every driving situation. A computer determines the prevailing driving situation in a matter of milliseconds. Drivers can choose from two driving programs depending on whether they want to drive in a highly sporty style – with the magnetorheological fluid adjusted to a low viscosity – or with more emphasis on ride comfort.
Audi R8 is equipped with 6-arm 18-inch wheels as standard, and optionally can be ordered with 19-inch wheels. Size 235/40 tires in front and up to 285/35 at the rear provide the necessary road-holding. Mid-engined sports car a long wheelbase and extremely low center of gravity ensures that always maintain maximum stability.
Interior – Audi R8
Sports seats trimmed as standard in a Leather / Alcantara combination, or an optional full leather. Or, R8 can also be equipped with bucket seats, specially developed by quattro GmbH. There is plenty of room for two passengers, with comfort levels well beyond the norm of high performance sports car. There is space behind the seats to store a large bag or even two golf bags. In front trunk has a capacity of 100 liters.
The interior has a driver-oriented cockpit architecture, integrating the driver between the dashboard and center console high. Instrument panel above the console elbow slightly toward the driver. Based on the flat wheel is characteristic of the sportiest Audi models, and also enables comfortable sports car entry and exit.
With many variants and trim applications in Piano finish or Carbon sigma, there are some limits range for interior customization options.
Equipment and trim, Audi R8
Xenon plus lights, LED taillights and daytime running lamps, 18-inch aluminum wheels, audio system with 7-inch monitor, anti-theft alarm and Leather / Alcantara interior trim are some of the items on the long list of standard features.
The range of optional enhancements including Bang & Olufsen sound system, display the output of 465 watts and 12 specially designed speakers. A microphone-based vehicle noise compensation system adjusts audio levels to changing road conditions and speed.
Acoustic parking system and a rear view camera helps the driver to maneuver into tight spaces and even. Radio / navigation system plus, featuring large-format color monitor and MMI keypad, combines extensive functionality with a very user friendly.
A total of eight exterior colors are available, from Ibis White to Phantom Black, pearl effect.
